A Midmorning Execution

So they hang me in the daylight, with the sunshine on my face,
‘cause maybe I like the darkness, ‘cause maybe I like the race.
And the air smells of lavender, and chamomile,
gold light glinting off the steel,
in your eyes, and hell,
I think I know you pretty well,
(To say the least).
And weren’t things getting awfully dull while I had you locked away?
So I let you out to fight again, and hoped that we could stay.
And weren’t things so uneven, flipping a coin with just one side?
No, there’s no gamble if you can’t lose, and I need you to stay alive.
(Take that as you will.)
Well, what’s more alive than death, you know, I’d rather hang from this tree,
Than live forever and half, without my enemy.
Yes, there’s a lightness where my heart must be,
that in the end, I had my enemy,
(and I am sorry to leave you alone).
Sunlight guilds the highest leaves, as the bottom fin’ly falls out,
I’m laughing as they loose the trap, because I have no doubt:
I’m mad for you, just for you, and I’d have it no other way.
The light that hits me hits you too, oh; I bet you feel the same ray.
No matter what you say.
(And yes, I know what you’ll say)
We had our fight in the shadows—we’re dark, old you and I,
The noose is cutting my breath short, a nitrous-oxide kind of high.
You wonder why I’m grinning—don’t you know it’s fun to die?
The world cuts down to just us two and I catch your eye.
You can read me loud and clear, you know that we aren’t done.
You know, it’s really not so bad…

…this dying in the sun.

"The best part about being a villain is that I get to keep coming back for more of you."
It's basically two things: one, the story of a hanging
and two: a conglomeration tribute of all my favorite pairings.

The top three I had in mind as I wrote it were Ichigo/Hichigo, Scri/Edgar, and Batman/Joker (all in a not-really-sexual way).

It's a shame there's no good love/hate pairings involving women. I guess we just aren't 'evil' enough, or some such nonesense.

Critique is welcomed.
